Creation en fil de coton
I was born in Cambridgeshire in the UK and studied Photography in the Arts Institute at Bournemouth on the south coast of England. I came to volunteer at the Parc de Sculpture and wanted to contribute something to the parc that I felt was different from what I already saw was here.
After making a sketch of my idea I simply began and hoped that lines of the structure would fit with the shape of the trees. To create the sculpture I used some plastic string (that is used for cooking), scissors, a ladder and a spirit level which was essential to make the structure a geometric cube and keep the nature of it as precise as possible. Towards the end I was forced to create additional branches for the string to originate, hence the branches wrapped in string. These became essential but distorted my idea of the pure effect of a minimal three dimensional drawing.
To appreciate it, it should not be touched but the veiwer should move around it, put your hands inside the shape to experience the emptiness combined with space manipulation, walk near and far from it to see the changing shapes the lines make when you move the position of your perspective. The initial idea was to make a simple line drawing or sketch into a tangible object that moves with your own movement. Like a drawing in mid-air.
